TOYOTA C-HR Description

The "C-HR" is a compact crossover SUV launched in Japan in December 2016 with the tagline "TOYOTA's Global Strategic SUV." It was first unveiled globally at the 86th Geneva International Motor Show in March 2016, prior to its Japan launch. This model was born at Toyota Motor East Japan's Iwate Plant, said to be a significant boost for the Tohoku region aiming for recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake. The C-HR garnered significant attention from its launch in December 2016 and also made headlines as the second vehicle introduced under the "Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA)." It recorded sales of approximately 80,000 units within six months of launch, securing the No. 1 spot in SUV new car sales for the first half of 2017. Furthermore, it recorded annual sales of about 117,000 units, achieving the No. 1 spot in SUV new car sales for 2017. While it has undergone several minor changes, a full model change has not yet occurred. The initial grade configuration at the December 2016 launch consisted of four types: "S," "G," "S-T," and "G-T." "S" and "G" were 2WD vehicles equipped with a 1.8L inline-4 DOHC hybrid system, while "S-T" and "G-T" were 4WD vehicles equipped with a 1.2L inline-4 DOHC intercooled turbo (regular gasoline specification) engine. Minor changes added new grades "S-T GR SPORT" and "S GR SPORT," and 2WD versions were also introduced for "S-T" and "G-T." However, the current grade structure still primarily revolves around the aforementioned four grades. In terms of equipment, all models come standard with Toyota Safety Sense P, electric parking brake, genuine leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel, and smart entry & start system. Furthermore, "G" and "G-T" include 18-inch aluminum wheels, LED front fog lamps, Blind Spot Monitor, and Clearance Sonar & Back Sonar, characterized by comprehensive equipment. The minor change in June 2021 made features like "Lane Tracing Assist," "Road Sign Assist," and "Back Guide Monitor" standard on all models. This model is also known for its low fuel consumption, with "S" and "G" achieving a class-leading 30.2km/L in JC08 mode, and "S-T" and "G-T" achieving 15.4km/L. The information in this description is current as of July 2021.
