The 5-door hatchback "Altezza" is the Japanese specification of the first-generation Lexus entry model "IS," a mid-size sedan type car launched in 1998. Initially developed as a "compact body FR layout sedan," elements of a premium sedan were later added to compete against European D-segment cars. The exterior of this car features a proportion conscious of sports cars, with short overhangs, large-diameter wheels, and a long wheelbase, which was subsequently inherited by the company's FR sedans. In 2001, the "Altezza Gita," a shooting brake-style station wagon type, was added to the lineup. Grades available for the model released in April 2004 include "AS200" and "RS200," as well as "Z Edition" and "L Edition" variations for each. Additionally, special editions "Wise Selection III" and "Limited II," along with "Navi Package" variations for "AS200" and "RS200," were set. The "Wise Selection III" features satin-finish designs for the rear combination lamp extensions and headlamp extensions, and silver-tone designs for the combination meter and steering wheel. The information in this description is current as of October 2018.
